Controlling hate speech has proven to be a challenging task. The anti-hate speech law is contentious since it restricts someone's ability to express themselves freely. The legal system continuously treads a fine line between control and outright prohibition.“But cases of hate speech are nevertheless on the rise despite the introduction of strict legislation. The Law Commission of India pushed for even tighter regulations in 2017 to curb this.
