Abstract
In this paper, an absorber that can electrically switch its absorption ratio with a very low DC power consumption is proposed. To attain these characteristics, we operated PIN diodes in the region below the threshold. By employing this method, the required DC voltage and current to control PIN diodes are dramatically reduced. Consequently, the proposed broadband absorber provides not only a switchable absorption property but also a low DC power consumption characteristic. In addition, it also possesses a polarization-insensitivity due to its symmetric structure and well-isolated bias lines from an RF signal. The measured results agree well with the simulated ones, which provides the validity of our design method.
