Abstract
This paper presents performance analysis and simulation of a wind power system which that is driven with a low speed Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) in Matlab/Simulink simulation software. The system consists of wind turbine (WT), PMSG, maximum power point tracking (MPPT), a three-phase diode bridge rectifier, a dc bus linked to capacitor and a PWM voltage source inverter regulated by a current source. In the model of the WT, best coefficient of performance parameter has been obtained as per the wind velocity with a MPPT control. The gear-box is not required due to the use of low speed PMSG which results in greater efficiency. The ac output power acquired through PMSG is fed to a three-phase rectifier bridge which enables the extraction of the maximum power through the optimum values of voltage and current of the boost converter. The current source PWM inverter for dc/ac conversion is employed for connecting the overall system to the electrical utility.
