A carrier synchronization technique using time-domain channel estimate for OFDM systems

Abstract

This paper presents maximum-likelihood estimators (MLEs) for carrier frequency offset (CFO) using frequency-domain and time-domain channel estimates. Cramer-Rao lower bounds (CRLBs) are derived and examined for the cases of same and different successive OFDM symbols. Furthermore, the MLE for the CFO, obtained using time-domain channel estimates, has high accuracy and features significantly reduced complexity, compared to conventional approaches.
