Abstract

Live-line maintenance (LLM) became more and more popular in the last decades because of its technical and economic benefits. From the aspect of transmission system operators (TSOs) and distribution system operators (DSOs) different fees related to service outages can be eliminated and losses caused by the resistance of a longer current path can be effectively decreased. From the consumer's point of view electrical energy becomes continuously available during maintenance and repair works executed by live-line technologies. Most of TSOs and DSOs worldwide have own training centers to practice different live-line techniques according to the valid regulations of the country. Education of low voltage (LV), medium voltage (MV) and high voltage (HV) LLM can be separated from each other but also can be executed at the same place. Training centers are often contracted by TSOs and DSOs to guarantee the adequate quality of education of live-line workers. Safety of the workers requires various theoretical and experimental topics to be practiced. Continuous audit during and after the education is widely used to examine the abilities of the workers. Certified independent institutions are also can be allowed to revise different working techniques executed both in the training center and on-site. After a base training (the typical duration is 3-4 weeks) live-line workers are usually obligated to refreshment trainings (usually for 1 week) after a specified period of time.
