Comparison of burnout, depersonalization, anxiety, stress and depression among clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, and counselling psychologists

Abstract

Previous research found that stress, depression, burnout, anxiety, and depersonalization play an important role amongst dental and medical students. Moreover, staff burnout is progressively regarded as a concern in the mental health arena has also been put up. We wanted to compare mental health professionals like clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, and counselling psychologists in terms of stress, depression, burnout, anxiety, and depersonalization to investigate this issue further and to study the effect on the mental health of service providers themselves. The data collection took place in Bengaluru including 30 clinical psychologists, 30 psychiatrists and 30 counselling psychologists currently practicing. Demographic data and the screening instruments like Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), and Depression, Anxiety and Stress scale (DASS) were used. Descriptive statistics was done followed by Kruskal Wallis H test and pair wise analysis. Results were obtained using the screening instruments and was discussed in detail along with the importance of this issue. It might be useful to develop programs aimed at helping mental health professionals with their personal mental health issues at regular intervals.
