Abstract

This paper presents a model-based validation process for selecting the components of a hybrid electric race vehicle. We analyze the performance of the electrical and mechanical systems of a high performance hydrogen fuel cell/ultracapacitor hybrid go-kart with four Brushless DC motors during its initial acceleration, top speed, and braking operation. Verification and refinement is made to achieve the required performance such as regenerative breaking capability. The final validation is made through the complete-car model simulation.
