Digitalization and the Concept of "Local": The Case of Radio in Spain

Abstract

Local communication has developed rapidly in Spain in recent years, both in terms of social and economic impact. Initially limited to private press and radio, the local sphere gradually saw the entry of public press, municipal radio, and television. In the 1990s, the Internet also appeared, mainly in the form of local portals. Digital technology raises new challenges. A new concept of "local" emerges and demands interpretation.
