Introductory Note

Abstract

In 2018, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued four judgments and eighteen orders ranging from the indication of provisional measures to procedural matters, while in 2019, it issued an advisory opinion at the request of the General Assembly, three judgments and a number of orders on different questions. Six new cases were begun in 2018 and two in 2019 dealing with matters such as appealing decisions of international bodies and alleged breaches of international treaties and conventions. In 2018, the Court’s docket comprised nineteen proceedings, eighteen contentious cases, and one advisory proceeding, going into 2019.
