Abstract

Harmonic resonance is a major concern in harmonic analysis of industrial power systems. This event can jeopardize system reliability and lead to significant issues in industrial plants. Consequently, assessment of electrical industrial networks from harmonic study point of view is essential. Field measurements can determine conditions and causes of a resonance phenomenon. In this study, the electrical network of Golgohar (GEG) Mining and Industrial Company is investigated using a power quality monitoring device. Measurements show a harmonic resonance at the frequency of 350 Hz. Moreover, this resonance is caused by the interaction of 6.3 kV shunt capacitors and the grid. In order to mitigate the resonance phenomenon, the whole electrical grid of the GEG Company is simulated in DIgSILENT PowerFactory software in details. A practical solution to eliminate the harmonic resonance is proposed. Results show the effectiveness of using single-tuned filters for harmonic resonance mitigation.
