Abstract

This article presents a first synthesis of the history of Jewish interpretation of Qo 12,5a. It has two parts. First, the author examines five ancient translations of Qo 12,5a. Secondly, he presents and analyzes various Jewish interpretations of Qo 12,5a. To understand the Reception History of this v. 5a, the author examines the way the exegetes answered the three following questions: Who is the subject of the verb yr’w? What are we afraid of? Finally, how should we understand the second part of v. 5a?
