KÜLTÜR VE TOPLUMU SİNEMA İLE OKUMAK: “THE HEDGEHOG” FİLMİ ÖRNEĞİ

Abstract

ÖZ Günümüzün büyük çoğunluğu tarafından kabul edilen önemli gerçeklerden biri de sinemanın toplumun yansıtılması bakımından en etkili araçlardan biri olduğudur. Bu çalışmada “The Hedgehog” filminin okuması yapılacak olup iletişimde kültürel farklılıklar, toplumsal önyargı, sınıf konuları Greimas'ın göstergebilimsel analiz yönteminden de yararlanılarak açıklanmaya çalışılacaktır. Öncesinde toplum, kültür, sınıf vb. kavramların tanım ve özelliklerine önemli sosyal bilimcilerin görüşü paralelinde yer verilecek ve tarihsel gelişimin kavramlar üzerindeki etkisi açıklanacaktır. Her anlatıda bir yüzeysel, temel anlam bir de derin anlam olduğu düşünüldüğünde, derin anlamda ifade edilmemiş olana ulaşım hedeflenmektedir. Anlatıda derin anlamın kavranabilmesi için analiz yöntemine ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Filmin seçilmesinin başlıca nedenlerinden biri farklı sınıflara ve kültürel anlayışlara sahip kimseleri aynı çatı altında birleştirmesidir. Mona Achache tarafından yönetilen filmin başrollerinde Josiane Balasko ve Garance Le Guillermic yer almaktadır. Muriel Barbery'nin aynı adlı romanından uyarlanan filmdeki olaylar Paloma isimli aklı evvel bir kız çocuğunun gözünden izleyiciye aktarılmaktadır. Kızın gözlem yeteneği paralelinde çizdiği olumlu profil doğum gününde kendini öldürmeyi planlaması açısından da paradoksal bir duruma işaret etmektedir. Kitapta ise Paloma karakterine ayrılan bölüm kadar Renée’nin de gözlemlerine yer verildiği ortaya çıkmaktadır. Ayrıca kitapta “Kirpinin Zarafeti” başlığı kullanılırken, filmde “Yaşamaya Değer” başlığı orijinal isim yerine kullanılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonunda elde edilen çıkarımlardan biri de kitaba kıyasla filmde ana karakterlerin kişilik özelliklerinin ve psikolojik durumlarının daha yüzeysel ele alındığı ve seyircinin ana karakterlerle özdeşleşmesinin kitap ile aynı seviyede olmadığıdır. Kitapta okuyucu Renée karakteriyle duygudaş olma fırsatı yakalarken ve Marx’a dair bir bölüm ile başlarken filmde ise, açılış sekansından itibaren filmin büyük çoğunluğunda elinde bir kamerayla Paloma’nın algı ve yorumlamaları seyirciye düzenli olarak gösterilmektedir. Benzer zekaya sahip olmanın ve benzer zengin iç dünyalara sahip olmanın, yaş farkı ile beraber sınıf farkını da ortadan kaldırdığını savunan filmde aynı zamanda sessiz yaşayan insanlara üstü örtülü bir övgü de söz konusudur. In this study, the film "The Hedgehog" will be analysed and the issues of cultural differences, social prejudice and class in communication will be tried to be explained by making use of Greimas' semiotic analysis method. Firstly, the definitions and characteristics of the concepts such as society, culture, class etc. will be given with the views of important social scientists and the effect of historical development will be explained. Considering that there is a superficial, basic meaning and a deep meaning in every narrative, aim is to reach what is not expressed in the deep meaning. In order to comprehend the deep meaning in the narrative, an analysis method is needed. One of the main reasons for the selection of the film is that it brings people together from different classes and cultural understandings under the same framework. Directed by Mona Achache, the film stars Josiane Balasko and Garance Le Guillermic. Based on Muriel Barbery's novel of the same name, the events in the film are presented through the eyes of a young girl Paloma. The positive profile that the girl draws in harmony with her observation skills points to a paradoxical situation in terms of planning to kill herself on her birthday. In the book, Renée's observations are included as much as the section given to the character Paloma. In addition, while the title "The Elegance of the Hedgehog" is used in the book, "Worth Living For" is used instead of the original title in the film. One of the conclusions obtained at the end of the study is that the personality traits and psychological states of the main characters are handled more superficially in the film compared to the book, and the audience's identification with the main characters is not at the same level as in the book. While in the book the reader has the opportunity to sympathise with the character Renée and it begins with a chapter about Marx, in the film, Paloma's perceptions and interpretations are regularly shown to the audience with a camera in her hand from the very beginning of the movie. In the film, having similar intelligence and similar rich inner worlds eliminates the class difference along with the age difference, there is also a hidden compliment to people who live in peace.
