Abstract

Smart Ventilation is of great interest for both improving occupants' comfort and for energy savings. Smart ventilation using Variable Air Volume (VAV) devices is not very practical in the residential market nor retrofit situations, and existing remote controlled vents create waste by replacing existing covers. We propose a novel approach by design of a wirelessly controllable dampers that could be used in a home or in a retrofit project and also smarten the existing VAVs in commercial buildings. By using different parameters for opening and closing, the remote damper is able to adjust and modulate airflow based on any users' needs to improve their comfort and consequently reduces the energy costs.
