The current environmental situations in the field of education, upbringing and formation of environmental consciousness, which affect the problems of preserving and restoring the environment, are highlighted. The solution of global environmental problems, the achievement of sustainable development and environmental safety of territories is impossible without the foundation of the foundations of the culture of nature management and environmental education of the population. Possible points of view on the nature of the educational process are shown and argued, allowing to integrate the body of knowledge gained in practice. The features of design technologies are disclosed and the advantages of its use in the training of specialists from the point of view of professional development are given. The article is devoted to the actualization and importance of environmental education, with the aim of shaping the environmental consciousness and culture of the population, for the processing of sustainable development of society. One of the important directions related to the solution of environmental problems at the present stage is environmental education and upbringing of students and the formation of environmental culture. Environmental education, both in the world and in Russia, is today considered a priority for teaching and educating students at all levels of education. We substantiated the relevance and interconnection of environmental education and upbringing, disclosed their essence, tasks, content, principles, forms and methods of work; the analysis of the state is given, the mechanism of development of certain aspects of the problem is characterized, etc. Achieving sustainable development and environmental safety of territories, solving global environmental problems is impossible without the foundation of the foundations of a culture of nature management and environmental education of the population. Abstract

The article considers in detail the need for environmental knowledge for the formation of environmental consciousness and culture in higher education.
