Spatial Decision Support for Gas Pipe Maintenance

Abstract

Maintenance of distribution networks is among the most important tasks a public utility company faces. Data about the pipes and their location are stored in a Geographic Information System, which is applied for documentary purposes only. The use of this information to manage construction sites for the maintenance of pipe networks would reap large cost savings. Hence this article discusses a spatial database based decision support system for gas pipe maintenance.
