Abstract

Objective: Rehabilitation services for elderly need to be prepared for the possibility of a blind spot. This study aims to confirm the possibility of clinical applicability by analyzing the recognition and error patterns of non-face-to-face sentence tests with noise in elderly. Method: 16 older adults(74.1±3.3 years)(study group; SG) and 26 young adults(22.8±1.9 years) (control group; CG) with normal hearing and cognitive ability participated in the study. In sentence test with +10, +5, 0, -5 dB SNR conducted non-face-to-face, the recognition and error patterns of each group were confirmed and statistically verified. Results: The recognition between two groups were observed significantly differences at 10 dB SNR (p=.002), 5 dB SNR(p=.002), 0 dB SNR(p=.001), and -5 dB SNR(p=.001). The error pattern was observed significantly differences in 5 dB SNR(p=.002), 0 dB SNR(p=.003) of substitution, in 0 dB SNR (p=.001), 5 dB SNR(p=.000), -5 dB SNR(p=.000) of DK, in -5 dB SNR(p=.000) of NR, respectively. Conclusion: The non-face-to-face sentence with noise test can be used as a useful assessment tool as well as the face-to-face test.
