Abstract
This research was planned to identify nursing students’ awareness of innovation and innovation levels. The sample of the descriptive study was collected online during the period of April-July 2021 from 331 voluntary nursing students studying at the nursing faculty of a state university. The research data were obtained by using the Student Information Form, Questions Related to their Innovative Ideas and the Individual Innovativeness Scale (IIS). Mean IIS score was found to be 65.40 ± 7.17; Opinion leadership sub-scale mean score was 25,37± 4,47; Resistance to change sub-dimension mean score was 23,21± 4,59 and Risk taking sub-dimension mean score was 16,81± 2,30; showing that the nurses were at a questioning level in their innovative approach. A significant difference (p<0.05) was found between individual innovativeness levels of nursing students' and their training on innovation, innovative ideas and probability of future membership in the Association of Innovative Nursing. The individual innovativeness characteristics of the participating nursing students were at a moderate level. The study found that most of the participating nursing students had knowledge on innovation; most of them believed that innovation was necessary in nursing care and they wanted to register with the Association of Innovative Nursing in the future. It is suggested that curriculum arrangements should be made to contribute to the support of students' innovative behaviors.
