Abstract

In 5G smartphones, the millimeter-wave (26GHz) phased array antenna based on high-precision printed circuit board (PCB) process should be within a limited thickness for example 1mm (0.09λ0). The traditional magneto-electric dipole antenna cannot be used in this phased array due to its high profile. To solve this problem, the phased array consists of 2 × 4 magnetoelectric dipole elements is presented, which is realized by only using double-layer substrate with low profile of 0.08λ0 (@26 GHz). The phased array antenna also meets some basic requirements, including realized gain more than 13 dBi, scan angle between −40 to 40 degree, and the band from 24.75 to 27.5 GHz.
