Abstract
One of the key objects of lighting infrastructures is to provide comfort and security to cities, small towns and villages. To solve any lighting problem is quite a challenge as it is obvious that the adequate lighting system provides a sense of well-being and security among the population. To achieve real reduction in energy consumption, the existing lighting systems are proving to be insufficient, providing inefficient lighting quality of public areas, reducing the safety of the population and the same is happening with monuments and/or historic sites where adequate lighting is lacking or nonexistent. This paper aims at building and presenting the development of lighting projects, using a predetermined methodology, with the help of the DIALux software. The work proposed to the students was to carry out a study of lighting for the castle of Montemor-o-Velho, in the district of Coimbra, Portugal, using more efficient technologies, which allow the reduction of energy consumption by upgrading the lighting systems to the current needs. The project intended to present a viable solution, both economic and energy efficient, for the castle of Montemor-o-Velho. The installation will have to be efficient and functional, taking into account the essential factor, the final visual appearance, by using functional and well-fitted luminaries. A number of criteria were established to select the best equipment in terms of sustainability, innovation, correct lighting and quality of life.
