“POR DAR NOTÍCIA AOS DE FORA”: os domínios ultramarinos na literatura justificativa da Restauração de Portugal (1641-1643)

Abstract

This article aims to problematize the argumentation concerning the Portuguese Overseas present in the literature of justification of the Portuguese Restoration. First, we contextualize these arguments in regard to the totality formed by the discourses where they were produced. Then, such discourses are contextualized in relation to the political transformations that took place in Portugal from December 1st of 1640, especially with regard to the use of typography for propagandistic purposes. Lastly, we conclude that the narrative on the Portuguese Empire present in these discourses was elaborated in function of the diplomatic battles fought after the Restorarion, particularly those with the States General of the Netherlands regarding the Portuguese territories occupied by Dutch.
