Abstract
The national energy generation resources of Pakistan are becoming insufficient due to increased demand of electrical energy. The country is suffering from a continuous shortfall of thousands of megawatts especially in summer when the demand increases many folds. The additional support to the national grid by means of small hydro projects on canals can be much beneficial. A technique can be devised through which the kinetic energy of the canals can be effectively utilized for electrical power generation. To increase the effectiveness and practical formulation of this method the feasibility analysis of the site, where this system can be installed for successful production of electrical energy and other factors are analyzed. Further more for practical evidence the paper includes the statistical analysis of power generation capacity of a small part of Rakh branch canal situated near FESCO Headquarter Faisalabad Pakistan.
