Abstract

This paper describes methods used to analyze power system transients. Overvoltage analysis techniques are evaluated. The complete system, including power cables and power generation is simulated using the ATP version of the Electromagnetic Transient Program (EMTP) in addition with several experimental cases. A new method to power quality analysis, and detection of switching of the reclose rele and cable voltage reflections using wavelets, is proposed. Comparisons between the power cable models are included. Experimental results of adverse effects in a power generation distributed along the feeder and power cables from transmission lines are shown.
