Abstract

This paper describes an energy management strategy for a light-weight electric vehicle equipped with a hybrid energy storage system. A population based optimization algorithm was used to solve a single objective constrained optimization problem, where the energy consumed by the battery was to be minimized for a given drive cycle in order to extend the range of the vehicle. Obtained results show the effectiveness of the proposed energy management strategy at minimizing the energy consumed while maintaining the imposed constraints.
