Abstract

This paper proposes a high efficiency torque control method of switched reluctance motors (SRM) based on low loss commutation control algorithm. The total copper losses minimization of the motor has been investigated through adjusting of the commutation in order to improve the efficiency of the motor. An optimal algorithm has been used to determine the proper commutation path at each operation point. The proposed method extends the low loss commutation control strategy to achieve efficient operation in a wide range of speed. The simulation comparisons are also presented on a 12/8 switched reluctance motor to validate the proposed control scheme.
