Abstract
An approach for calculating the fields radiated from either electric or magnetic dipoles placed inside or at the surface of a multilayer structure arranged of arbitrary elemental materials, including metamaterials, is presented. A combination of Green's function technique and Spatial Harmonic Analysis method is used. The electromagnetic behavior of the dipole sources in the vicinity of the metamaterial surface is studied. This approach is applicable to the important case when the near field of fluorescent molecules is coupled to a multilayer single-periodic or bi-periodic nanostructure.
