Single transistor chopper supply for a searchlight

Abstract

A chopped d.c. power unit supplies a searchlight from a single very large transistor. Current control, high reliability and difficulties with the large dynamic capacitance of the 100 kW transistor are described together with mathematical consideration of the output stage.
