Abstract

This study presents an analytic method to analyse the viability of an utility scale energy storage system for PV power plant (PVPP) for clipping loss minimization. A PV power plant modelling method is proposed to assist the PVPP operator in forecasting the clipped energy. Moreover, an economic analysis is described to define the viability of the storage system. The viability of IMW/1MWh storage system to collocate a 5 MW Kelmoney PV project, which is under construction and planned to operate under the Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS), has been considered for this analysis.
