Abstract

Chapter 1 examines the history of U.S. housing policy and geographic segregation. Beyond a history of housing segregation, Chapter 1 examines how policy contributed to the conceptualization of Black space as morally deficient. Finally, this chapter establishes a connection between the implementation of U.S. housing policy and the way Black life is depicted in media, marketing, and popular culture.
