Recent development of flat panel display technology and industry in Korea

Abstract

Since 1995, Korean electronics industries and academia including national research institutes have started to collaborate in the development of advanced technologies for large screen, high resolution TFT-LCDs and PDPs having less power consumption and higher contrast and brightness. Some goals of this research and development comprise the commercialization of flat panel displays such as 18"/spl sim/30" TFT-LCDs and 40"/spl sim/50" PDPs for desktop computer monitors and wide screen HDTVs. Time for mass production will be determined with the growth of market size and reduced manufacturing cost as well as improvement of display performance.
