Abstract
The majority of loads in distribution systems are inductive, resulting in a poor power factor, which causes power losses, voltage instability, voltage changes and system security issues, all of which have an impact on power transfer efficiency. To raise the power quality parameters in the Distribution systems, D-FACTS devices like Distribution Static Compensator (DSTATCOM) is to be introduced. In the modern days, the Distribution Generation (DG) has become increasingly important for improving the efficiency of power distribution networks. To provide a reliable and cost-effective source of electricity for consumers, combination of DG with DSTATCOM is crucial. Several methods and algorithms are proposed for the optimal placement of DG and DSTATCOM for improving the efficiency of distribution networks. This paper describes the methods used to determine the location and size of DG and DSTATCOM in distribution networks under various scenarios. The location and sizing of DG and D-STATCOM in a distribution network are explained briefly based on the requirements under various operational scenarios.
