After spending 4 years in the Navy based on a ship out of San Diego, California he attended the University of Louisiana Lafayette where he majored in music education. He then went directly to the University of Florida for his Masters degree in Trumpet Performance where he also played trumpet for the Christmas Brass at Walt Disney World part-time. Harshbarger is now in his 18th year of teaching music in Flagler Schools and currently is teaching K-6th grade music at Old Kings Elementary. He is National Board certified and a former Indian Trails Teacher of the Year as well as a former Flagler County Teacher of the Year. He was recently named a quarter-finalist for the 2014 Grammy Educator Award. Rodney and wife Denise are currently working on their Doctoral Degrees at the University of Central Florida.
