Abstract
A new method of high-frequency phonon detection is reported. By time-resolved far-infrared spectroscopy, transverse acoustic zone-boundary phonons in TlCl and TlBr crystals are observed and the decay of these phonons at temperatures from 3 K to 20 K is investigated.
