Abstract

People with special needs (PSN), e.g., disabled and elderly people, often requires the assistance of the other individuals in their daily activities. Approaches on PSN support with regards to the management of their daily life by means of IT-based services are developed by the CONFIDENT project, which is partially funded by the European Commission. The developed platform is based on the "access from anywhere paradigm" and is built on a distributed and collaborative architecture based on Web services. This structure provides assistants and PSN with secure access to a service network from various devices. Multiple channels of communication are established so as to provide the users with a communication environment that helps them to live their life independently and according to their own choices. Bio-metric signal monitoring and the provision of the commonly used ways of interaction helps them to organize their own way of life whilst being confident not being left alone in exceptional and emergency cases.
