Abstract

The uniqueness of continuous multimedia database applications lies in the fact that they require system support steady flow of media access data. In this paper we address the problem of system resource management for such applications. We introduce a session-based scheduling paradigm that, unlike traditional task scheduling, enables scheduling of all processing entities (threads, I/O processes, and buffers) across multiple system resources for guarantee of steady mediaflow.
