Wave propagation tlirougli complex inediums with transverse and longitudinal variations is becoming increasingly important for natural arid man-made applications. Analytical solutions hased 011 the mode concept which are the solutions of the coordinate separable problems can be extended to tlie adiabatic and tlie intrinsic mode concepts to solve more general, non-separable wave probleins including critical transition regions.
