Advances in Permanent Magnet Motors and Their Application in the Pulp, Paper, and Forest Products Industry

Abstract

The demand for improved efficiency and the desire for increased power density have resulted in a more widespread application of permanent magnet motors. Once restricted to use on certain specialized applications, permanent magnet machines are now being applied on a large variety of applications including those that are low-speed/high-torque direct-drive, process pumps, cooling towers, etc. Topics discussed include various types of permanent magnet motors, common rotor configurations, and serviceability.
