Abstract

We propose a Petri net based support in derivative development of consumer electronic products. A product should be extended so as to be backward compatible. In this method, we convert the product's design (the UML activity diagram) to a Petri net, and then apply Petri nets' analysis technique, called projection inheritance, to verification of backward compatibility. We illustrate the proposed method with an example in which an intelligent refrigerator is extended.
