"La furia de buscar el oro". Los asientos mineros del siglo XVIII y XIX en la Puna de Jujuy, Argentina

Abstract

During the colonial and republican periods, many mining undertakings weredeveloped in the Puna of Jujuy leading to the proliferation of settlements dedicated to gold and silver extraction. The characteristics of three settlements,placed in a small portion of the Puna landscape, which developed around goldmining are presented and compared in this paper; their different historicaltrajectories are also studied since a degree of variability in the archaeologicalevidence was observed in each case. Thus to a purely archaeological study,including spatiality, preserved architectonic structures, artifacts and featuresanalysis, we have added a diversity of written records from this and similarareas such as colonial documents, travel journals, geological and officialreports, and catalogues of colonial material.
