Abstract
In this paper an optimal sliding mode controller for load frequency control in a Multi area deregulated inter connected Thermal-system has been proposed. In the design of optimal sliding mode control, a systematic procedure for designing a sliding surface is a vital importance. This new approach is presented for load frequency control using sliding mode control and linear optimal control theory. This proposed sliding mode controller tested on multi-area thermal deregulated system when system is subjected to parameter uncertainties. This proposed controller is more effective and insensitive to parameter variations.
