Aliado a isto, a vitamina C, que contribui para o sistema de defesa antioxidante do organismo, acaba sendo encontrada em deficiencia em pacientes com DM. Assim, tendo em vista o efeito benefico da vitamina C sobre as complicacoes do DM tipo II, o objetivo do presente estudo e verificar o consumo e os niveis plasmaticos de vitamina C em pacientes acometidos por tal doenca e correlacionar com manifestacoes clinicas, sintomas e agravamentos decorrentes de tal enfermidade. A pesquisa foi realizada em dois municipios do Sudoeste do Parana, contando com a participacao de 100 individuos, separados em dois grupos, grupo caso e grupo controle. Para a coleta de dados foram aplicados o QFA (Questionario de Frequencia Alimentar), uma anamnese nutricional e coleta sanguinea a fim de quantificar a vitamina C plasmatica. Como resultados, verificou-se que o IMC se mostrou maior no grupo caso com 28,22±2,17 sendo classificado em sobrepeso segundo a OMS e o grupo controle ficou em 24,83±1,24, classificado como eutrofico. O consumo de vitamina C se mostrou maior no grupo controle com 68mg/dia em relacao ao grupo caso com 43mg/dia. A vitamina C plasmatica nao apresentou diferenca significativa. Conclui-se que o consumo alimentar de vitamina C de diabeticos encontra-se abaixo do recomendado e que a media do IMC se encontra elevada, fatos esses que podem ser associados com o desenvolvimento do DM. Vitamin C which contributes to the body's antioxidant defense system ends up being found in deficiency in patients with DM. In view of the beneficial relationship between vitamin C and the complications of type II DM, the objective of the present study is to verify the consumption and plasma levels of vitamin C in patients affected by this disease and to correlate with manifestations, symptoms and worsening of such illness. The research was carried out in two towns of the Southwest of Parana, counting on the participation of 100 individuals, which were divided into two groups, case group and control group. As instruments of data collection were applied the FFQ (Food Frequency Questionnaire), a nutritional anamnesis and blood collection were applied to quantify plasma vitamin C. As a result, it was verified that BMI was higher in the case group with 28.22 ± 2.17 being classified as overweight according to WHO and the control group was 24.83 ± 1.24, classified as normal. Vitamin C intake was higher in the control group at 68 mg/day than in the case group at 43 mg/day. Plasma vitamin C showed no significant difference. It is concluded that dietary intake of vitamin C from diabetics is below recommended levels and that the mean BMI is high, which can be associated with the development of DM. Abstract
