Abstract

Throughout the U.S., the need for effective treatment of petroleum contaminated soil has escalated due to the increase in the number of underground storage tank (UST) systems being upgraded in response to EPA regulations. Remedial options for excavated contaminated soil have in the past been limited to disposal in land treatment facilities or treatment by thermal processes. The report reviews and assesses the state-of-the-art of bio-oxidation technologies, focusing upon aboveground soil mounds.
