Abstract
This paper presents an active antenna array module for base transceiver systems (BTSs) at millimeterwave (mmW) frequencies. The implementation considers the dynamic orientation changing of user terminals (UTs) to cause rapid radiation polarization variations. The BTS antenna array is thus equipped with a functionality of tunable polarization to comply with the UT antennas’ polarization for minimizing polarization mismatch. Antenna architecture and its characteristics of radiation polarization are presented with HFSS full-wave simulations and experimental measurements on an antenna prototype shown to validate the concepts.
