Abstract

A simple method to form gold nanoparticles was applied to a fiber-optic interferometer to measure the refractive index. To form nanoparticles on the fiber, sputter-deposited gold thin film was thermally annealed. The sensitivity was improved when combining the gold nanoparticles with the optical fiber-based multimode interference sensor.
