Abstract

Ablative performance of High-density carbon phenolic (HD-CFRP) is investigated by exposing to an extremely cold temperature of -160 degree Celsius, followed by rapid heating conditions ranging from 5.5 to 12.1 MW/m 2 of JAXA/ISAS arc jet tests to identify the thermal integrity of the material as a future re-entry capsule heat shield material with demanding system requirements, In this paper, we introduce our activities and the outcomes by the investigation.
