Abstract
Sustainability is an important concept that arises from the concerns related to subjects such as ecology, society, and economy in order to provide the continuity of social life, which contains the thought that the existing order is unsustainable, and which reminds the necessity of change as an action for that. The goal of sustainability is to investigate and apply the systems that will provide the continuity of a livable world. In other words, it invites the society to take responsibility and participate in the actions that will raise awareness for the continuity of the habitat. Every profession in the society has a role in sustainability in the value of social status. Graphic design as a profession has started to be present in the sustainability strategy by including the element of culture determined by AIGA (The American Institute of Graphic Arts) to the fields of ecology, society, and economics involved in sustainability structuring. The element of culture is an important tool in visual productions that are looking for answers to design problems that are waiting for solutions in large areas based on the difference and consensus of cultural information. The mission of design with a cultural element is to convey a message by strategically visualizing ideas. Although graphic design is more commonly known as the advertising face of commercial commodities, it generally exists in all the printed and published areas that are functionally used. The graphics designer, who is the producer of the design, is the one who shapes, produces, and makes available the designs as an application with the knowledge of the social codes of the social structure. The responsibility of graphics designers should not be perceived only as editing the message with the right codes; their responsibility is based on the idea of increasing the good designs. Good design is the basis of intellectual structure that has the useful and harmful control of the production and consumption that contains all areas of sustainability. A good design is shaped around an idea and is an important methodological analysis that considers the functionality of products that have emerged as a result of the study of minimal damage by combining social data at the production stage. Within this context, the responsibility of a graphics designer is to investigate the areas of functional structuring such as technique, material, application, technology, re-production and to evaluate the subject with a large perspective that will provide the sustainability of environment-culture-human spiral in design. This article was written with the intention of reminding the graphics designers of their active responsibility in the social order and to help them realize the importance of the role of their designer identity's power in this structure.
