Abstract

This paper describes the measurement of process reaction force generated in EDM using the Split Hopkinson Bar method. Using this method, the correct waveform of the reaction force was obtained without being influenced by the natural frequency of the measuring system. The influences of the dielectric fluid and discharge position on the reaction force were investigated. Based on the measurement of the reaction force caused by two consecutive pulse discharges, the reaction force applied to the tool electrode in the actual EDM process is discussed.
