Abstract

Summary The combination of specific near-surface conditions associated with the shape of river banks, as well as the presence of a sharp jump in the acoustic impedance under these rivers, such as salt lenses, leads to the formation of multiply diffracted interference waves reverberating in the upper layer and appearing on seismic data as repeatable diffractions with peaks, which are focused in the footprints of the rivers after migration. These prints repeat the shape of the rivers and are clearly visible on horizontal time slices in different time intervals.
