Persuasive writing

Abstract

In Legal Skills I, law students learn the basics of objective legal writing. In Legal Skills I, the audience is a supervisor or a superior and most objective legal writing is performed in a law office setting. Legal Skills II and III cover persuasive writing; advocating for a client's legal position. The audience for persuasive writing is a court, a judge, a judge's law clerk, and opposing counsel. In a lower court, a lawyer asks the judge for a determination/decision. In an appeals court, a lawyer asks the court to review a lower court's decision.
