Abstract
New wideband T-shaped perforated dielectric resonator antenna is proposed. First, a rectangular DRA of dimensions 31 mm × 31 mm × 15.5 mm is designed with the dielectric constant of 10.2 at 2.4 GHz for fundamental TE111 mode. It is excited using offset co-axial probe feeding. Second, symmetrical array of square shaped holes of order 5 × 5 with the dimensions of 4 mm × 4 mm × 15.5 mm are drilled along z-axis with the periodicity (distance between two consecutive holes) of 6 mm. The perforated geometry reduces the effective dielectric constant and thus bandwidth improves. Next, two symmetrical slots of size 7.5 mm × 31 mm × 7.5 mm are cut from the perforated geometry. The resonant modes in the proposed geometry at 3.17 GHz and 4.1 GHz, resembles TE111 and TE131 like mode respectively. These modes are responsible for broadside radiation characteristics. The impedance bandwidth of ~45% is achieved in the frequency range 2.9 – 4.3 GHz at the resonant frequency of 3.17 GHz. The maximum gain of 6.1 dBi and efficiency greater than 80% is achieved in the frequency of operation, 2.9 – 4.3 GHz. The proposed geometry is suitable for various wireless communication systems.
