Abstract

A prototype expert system has been developed to assist the operation planning of power systems. The system consists of four subsystems: configuration planning, reliability/security planning, voltage/reactive power planning, and stability planning. The authors focus on the second and the third subsystems. Knowledge has been acquired through both interviews and verbal protocol analysis, and it is represented as production rules. Analysis tools written in Fortran, such as load flow, short-circuit calculation, sensitivity calculation, and transient stability simulation are joined to the knowledge-based system.<>
